Craniosacral Therapy

with Becky Higginson

The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that surround and cushion the brain and spinal cord. The CSF is in constant motion. It is continuously being made in the brain and pumped along the spinal cord, providing protection and nutrition to the nervous system. This gentle movement of the CSF produces the craniosacral rhythm. The craniosacral rhythm is similar to other rhythms felt in the body, such as the heartbeat or pulse, but it is much more subtle. Craniosacral therapists are trained to feel this rhythm and to assess the movement of the CSF, shich can be restricted by tension or previous trauma. By working very gently with the skull, spine and fascia. the restrictions can be removed, freeing the movement of the CSF.

what to expect in a craniosacral therapy session:

A typical session will begin with you lying fully clothed on a massage table, usually face up. I will place my hands lightly on your skull, spine, pelvis and soft tissues, tuning into your body by listening with my hands. Therapeutic contact occurs simultaneously with the assessment. Clients often report a sense of deep relaxation during and after the treatment session. With the gentle facilitation of my hands, your body will release areas of restriction. As connective tissue and membranes release, they soften and become pliable, which allows for more effective functioning of your cranial and spinal nerves and increased fluid flow to cells and tissues. When our central nervous system is functioning better, we feel better. This therapy can be particularly useful for mental stress, emotional difficulties, neck and back pain, headaches, TMJ dysfunction and for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.

$75 for a one hour session.
