The basis of yoga therapy is that our bodies inherently know what is good. Unfortunately, living life interferes with perfect health. Our bodies are meant to move, but many of us in the Western world spend our days sitting at desks, glued to computer screens, or stuck in a rut of repetitive, thoughtless movements.
Being pain-free takes effort. It doesn't come from a pill or a surgeon's knife. We might experience temporary healing through a medical modality, but, unless there is transformation at a deep level, we will end up re-creating the same old conditions again and again.
The main goal of yoga therapy is to find balance. If we can find balance in our bodies, we will experience physical health. Yoga has a profound effect on influencing our state of mind, thus changing the negative thought patterns that inhibit the natural healing process. Practicing yoga has the ability to effect all the physiological systems: nervous, digestive, reproductive, endocrine. Once shifts begin to occur in our bodies, it is impossible to change one system without changing the whole.
The initial session will include a detailed history, posture and range of motion check. The rest of the time will consist of a combination of asana (yoga poses), breath work and meditation tailored to your individual needs. You will leave with recommendations for a home yoga practice. Advice may also be given about diet, nutrition and supplementation. Dress comfortably and wear clothes that allow your body to be seen and accessed. Please arrive with an empty belly and a full heart!
